Routine as Repertoire

VANESSA CRUZ

“When we went into the lockdown and pandemic, it's just been really hard not being able to dance with my walker and using a wider space…. Going back into dancing in a small space and how that was very reminiscent to my practice when i was younger when i started discovering dance...I would literally lock myself in the bathroom because the floor had a texture in which i could really work with.

I discovered a lot of things in that space in terms of performing and things like that like, how I like to perform and really, a lot of self-discovery.”

Vanessa Cruz, who lives with Arthrogryposis, shares her stretching and practice routines that she has incorporated so as to manage the rigour of being a professional dancer and choreographer. She also shares how advocacy work has become one of her routines.
